Aged Care X-Ray
& Ultrasound in Melbourne
Across Melbourne
We bring portable digital X-ray and bedside ultrasound to residential aged care homes across Melbourne, so residents are imaged in their own room — no ambulance, no emergency department wait, and far less distress than a transfer.
We have performed over 10,000 examinations across more than 170 aged care homes. Clinician-owned and clinician-run, with our own Melbourne-based staff and our own equipment.
Mobile X-Ray
Portable digital radiography at the bedside — chest, abdomen, hip, pelvis, spine, shoulder, knee and extremity imaging. Common reasons nursing staff call us: a suspected fracture after a fall, chest infection or aspiration, constipation and bowel obstruction, PEG and NG tube placement, and assessment before a decision to transfer.
Mobile Ultrasound
Sonographer-led bedside ultrasound, including abdominal, renal, bladder and post-void residual, pelvic, musculoskeletal and soft tissue studies, along with DVT and vascular Doppler. No radiation, no transfer — the scan is done in the resident’s own room.
Why aged care homes choose EMRG Imaging
Quick when it counts
In most cases we attend the same day or the next business day, and urgent requests are worked into that day’s run. Anything clinically urgent is raised with the treating doctor directly.
Familiar faces
Our own Melbourne-based radiographers and sonographers, who get to know your home, your access arrangements and your nursing team — not a different contractor every visit.
Hospital-standard reporting
Our radiologists, radiographers and sonographers also work within Melbourne’s major hospital and health networks. All clinical staff are AHPRA registered and our sonographers are ASAR accredited.
Less disruption for residents
We group residents into a single visit, work around meal and medication rounds, and keep site access notes so imaging fits the home’s routine. Trusted by homes operated by Arcare, Regis, Opal, Calvary, Bupa and more.
How it works
We come to the home
A radiographer or sonographer attends — usually the same or next business day — and images the resident in their room.
Results to the doctor
Images go straight to our radiologists and the report is sent to the referring doctor and the email you nominate.
We cover metropolitan Melbourne — see the councils and suburbs we attend.
Aged care imaging: common questions
What imaging can you do inside an aged care home?
We bring digital X-ray and ultrasound to the resident's room. That covers common X-rays such as chest, hips and pelvis after a fall, spine, abdomen and limbs, plus ultrasound and Doppler studies, including DVT scans, done at the bedside.
Does the resident need to leave the facility?
No. Our radiographers and sonographers come to the home and image the resident in their own room, often in their own bed. That avoids an ambulance trip and a long wait in hospital, which is easier on residents and on your staff.
How quickly can you come out?
We often attend the same day or the next day. If a request is urgent, call us and we will tell you when the team can get there.
How do we send a request?
Upload the doctor's or nurse practitioner's referral on our referral page, or call us on (03) 7045 1151. Include the resident's name, date of birth, room and the reason for the scan.
Who reports the images and where do the results go?
Every study is reported by our radiologists, who also work within Melbourne's major hospital and health networks. The report goes straight to the referring doctor.
Which areas do you cover?
We cover eastern, south-eastern and north-eastern Melbourne. See the full list of councils on our mobile radiology service area page.
Can our home use EMRG as its regular imaging provider?
Yes. Many aged care homes use us for all their resident imaging. Call us and we will set up the referral process with your nursing team.
